Albion will be heading off for warmer climes on Thursday and travelling to Spain for a warm weather training camp.

With no fixture this weekend, Pepe Mel is set to take full advantage of the trip which was organised ahead of the season, as it will give him a great chance to work with the players without the distractions of preparing for an upcoming match.

Speaking to wba.co.uk about the trip, sporting and technical director Richard Garlick explained.

‘The mid season training camp is something we’ve had in mind since this time last year. Our form has dipped around this period in previous seasons and we’ve looked at ways we might break that cycle.’

Garlick goes on to say that a warm weather winter training camp was something they decided on because it’s a good opportunity for the team to spend some time with each other to help team spirit, but also being all together means a few extra sessions can be snuck in – especially with the more favourable weather – so fitness should receive a healthy little boost as well.

‘The only question was when we would fit it into the schedule and going out of the FA Cup has presented us with a window. The added bonus is it gives Pepe and excellent opportunity to get six days solid work with the players in better conditions than we’re experiencing in this country.’

The particular camp we are heading to is well known to Mel, as he’s also used those facilities before in his career.
