Sporting and Technical Director Dan Ashworth is hopeful that the Baggies can benefit from the Arsenal Academy again in the future given the success of Jay Simpson and Carlos Vela.

Speaking to the Express & Star Ashworth said that the club certainly hasn’t ruled out trying to raid Arsenal again in the future, as there are obvious benefits to both clubs by such arrangements.

‘Arsenal are the top producer of young players through an Academy and it’s very important to have good relations. They haven’t always had the opportunity to play their young players and it’s a good for clubs like ours to get some top young players on loan.’

Vela is the most recent short term acquisition from Arsene Wenger’s boys and he has been instrumental in helping us to secure points against Wolves and Stoke with late equilisers.

The Baggies also benefited from the loan of Jay Simpson previously, but the biggest gain surely has to be that if we are on good terms with Arsenal, it stands to reason good players through numbers alone will be allowed to leave, so if we’ve got a reputation for being good for youngsters to come to, our chances of catching those that fall through the cracks is hugely improved.

Such benefits won’t happen over night but it’s certainly worthwhile the club looking at both the short term gain as well as a potential long term gain through the association.
