Since I’ve been editing this site, for the last couple of weeks, I’d noticed a distinct drop in form creeping into the West Brom team. I was starting to get paranoid and think that, in some way, any negative comments that were posted on Vital West Brom were manifesting in bad results and poor form.
The days of the Middlesbrough game seemed a distant and fading memory. So I hosted a poll on the site, and 8% of you thought that, against Watford, we could achieve another 5-0 rampage.
And it came true, oh how it came true. Thank you to those 8%, those believers. My paranoia has disappeared and Albion are back at the top of the tree. Where we rightly belong.
Today was everything we could have hoped for, a demolition of Watford in front of the Hawthorns faithful.
Early goals from the ever more important Jonas Olsson, a header from a Graham Dorrans’ free-kick, and Dorrans himself scoring from the spot settled the team into a steady rhythm. 2-0 after only 18 minutes.
We hadn’t scored in four of the last six matches, but boss Roberto Di Matteo’s extra shooting sessions during training were clearly paying off.
Luke Moore got his name on the score sheet, a tap-in after having his initial shot saved, Gianni Zuiverloon slammed one in from 20 yards and Simon Cox blasted one in from even further out to complete the rout.
Watford’s young side had gone six games unbeaten away from home, but they never looked like maintaining that record today. They are guilty, like Albion have been, of playing like Brazil one week, and pub team the next.
Nathan Ellington had a chance for a late consolation goal but his header was tipped around the post. It was fantasy football for the Baggies and a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Malky Mackay’s men.
