Dan Ashworth concurs with Roy Hodgson that a mass of signings aren’t required at the Baggies now, preferring to target 2 or 3 key additions.

Speaking to wba.co.uk our sporting and technical director said he believed the team as a whole was strong enough for the rigours of next season, and he believes the Baggies will be best served by focusing on a few key additions to improve us further.

‘We were very pleased with last season and how it finished. We brought in 11 players, including a few youngsters and when I look back to 12 months ago compared to our squad now, we didn’t yet have Odemwingie, Scharner, Shorey and Tchoyi. We are miles better off than we were 12 months ago.’

It certainly sounds like everybody is on the same page in terms of continuing to build the squad. Ashworth adds that overall they are probably looking at 6 or so new signings for this summer, but obviously they are players who can slot straight into the first team.

Zoltan Gera is awaiting a medical, and it’s expected he will be added to our ranks shortly, leaving really only a goalkeeper (or two) and an additional striker as a necessity.
