Albion have pulled off the signing tonight of Uruguay captain Diego Lugano from French Champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The defender joins us on a free transfer and the 6ft 2′ player has signed a two year deal following a successful medical.

He will wear the No 14 shirt this season and is now just awaiting international clearance.

He has represented his country 77 times which is the current record for Uruguay, and he is the second highest capped player in their history (86).

Speaking to wba.co.uk Steve Clarke said of the capture of the 32 year old.

‘I’m delighted to welcome Diego to the club. He’s an experienced centre half who will increase competition in that area of the team. This is a tough league and you need as many good players in your squad as you can get, and Diego is undoubtedly one of those.’
