Albion bag unlikely point against Hull

In a scrappy battle away from home, West Brom managed an unlikely point from a game where we were second fiddle for most of the match.

In a game where it mattered more not to lose, Hull made the first breakthrough with Bernard Mendy skinning the Baggies back-line before slotting the ball past Carson. With the goal coming minutes before the first half ended combined with the Albion’s woeful away form this season the players went in at half time with their heads down.

Tony Mowbray must have fired a rocket in the changing rooms at half time as they came out a different side, and soon levelled the scoreline; Jay Simpson scoring his first league goal for the club with a tidy finish after Morrison had worked him in. The lead only lasted fifteen minutes though, with Fagan profiting from a great cross by the impressive Mendy, restoring Hull’s advantage.

However, the Baggies were up and fighting straight away, and after Fortuné was foiled by Duke in the Hull goal, Zayatte hacked down Bob Koren in the box and Chris Brunt slipped the resulting penalty somewhat unconvincingly past the Hull keeper.

With Hull on a six match losing streak prior to this game and Albion still propping up the table despite all their good work, a point each could not be sniffed at – especially as Hull had the lions share of the match.
