3 key passes, 6 shots: Albion talisman is beginning to return his entertaining best – Opinion

It’s felt like some time since West Brom supporters last saw Matheus Pereira at his most devastating, yet Wednesday night saw the Brazilian seemingly being to return his best.

The Brazilian’s 2020 has so far been a frustrating one, with Pereira suspended for three matches as reported by BBC Sport after being found guilty of elbowing Joe Allen in West Brom’s 1-0 loss to Stoke City, and prior to the Baggies’ 2-1 win against Reading this week, the 23-year-old winger had yet find the back of the net in all competitions since the turn of the year as stats from WhoScored show.

Yet West Brom’s trip to the Madejski Stadium saw flashes of brilliance that has made Pereira one of the Championships best players this season as well as one of its most entertaining, with the Sporting Lisbon loanee being the star of the show as the attacker scored the Albion’s first goal which kicked off their comeback against the Royals, a result that has put the Hawthorns side six points clear of Leeds United at the top of the league table.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

And as stats from WhoScored show, Pereira put up the numbers to show he is clawing his way back to being one of the best players in the Championship, with the forward claiming the Man of the Match award as well as managing the joint-most shots in the game with six, with the 23-year-old also registering three key passes in the Baggies 2-1 win over Reading.

With six goals and 11 assists this season, Pereira has been one of the most productive players in the Championship this season as stats from WhoScored show, and with Sky Sports News reporting last month that the winger will become a permanent West Brom player in the coming weeks due to an appearance clause agreed with Sporting, the 23-year-old talisman could be in for a massive second half of the campaign for Slaven Bilic’s side.
