On Saturday, West Bromwich Albion confirmed the signing of former Scunthorpe United left-back Conor Townsend.
The 25-year-old heads into the club for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal and he will provide competition with Kieran Gibbs. He becomes head coach Darren Moore’s fifth summer signing and follows Sam Johnstone, Jonathan Bond, Kyle Bartley and Harvey Barnes as being new faces through the door ahead of the Championship kick off next weekend.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as his signing was announced Moore explained that he felt there were big things to come from the player in the future.
“This is another good acquisition for us. He’s been on our radar for quite a while and I’m delighted we have beaten two other clubs to his signature.”
Adding.
“I’m really pleased to get Conor in because the qualities he will bring into the group are just what I am looking for. He’s an exciting, energetic, bubbly character who loves getting forward with attacking intent. He’s got a good left foot and will inject further energy into the team. And there is more to come from him. He’s going to be joining an experienced group of players who will be able to help develop him in the working environment we have here.”
Having begun his career in Hull City’s Academy ranks, he did debut as a substitute for them in the League Cup competition, but the bulk of his game time came in loan spells out with Grimsby, Chesterfield, Carlisle United, Dundee United, Scunthorpe and finally back to Grimsby.
Moving on from Hull he arrived as a free agent back at Glanford Park in January 2016 and he made a total of 82 starting appearances for them, along with six further showings from the bench. He also returned five goals.
His career tally stands at 177 starts, 17 substitute showings and a return of nine goals.
Fans might not know a lot about him, but he comes with decent references.
